Carter was born in November 2000 at Children's in Chicago. He weighed 9 lb. 3
oz. and was 21 inches. long. He was born with biliary atresia and his Kasai was done when he
was 20 days old. His Kasai didn't work. His doctors wanted him to grow a bit
more before his transplant and he has had monthly checkups since birth. They are in
awe that he has done so well. He is now 22 lb. and 28 in. and is scheduled
for transplant on December 5. Both of his aunts were tested to be live donors,
but to no avail. Carter's mom, Pam, is a perfect match and will be his donor.
It has been a pins and needles year and from what I understand, we are at only the tip of the iceberg with all of
the aftermath of transplant ahead. Carter began walking at 9
months and never seems to sit still. He is interested in balls, wheels, cars and books. They tell us he will be even
more active and happy after transplant, but it is hard for us to imagine what
we will be in for if anymore activity occurs. |
