When Caden was five weeks old, I was introduced to the world of biliary
atresia. Caden had trouble gaining weight. At four weeks old,
I noticed that the whites of eyes were yellow and then I really noticed
his skin was yellow too. The doctor that had been following him
since birth decided to get some lab work done. Once the results were
in, the doctor sent us to a much larger hospital.
At six weeks of age, Caden had a nontraditional Kasai done using his
gallbladder. After about five weeks it was apparent that this was
not a success. A month later he had the traditional Kasai.
Unfortunately, it worked for just a month and Caden began having several
bouts of cholangitis.
Recently, Caden was evaluated for a liver transplant. I am
hopeful that he will receive his gift soon. All that we have been
through God has been right beside Caden. I know He is helping use
and He will go the distance with us
